The dark days of Winter take their toll on the “Voice of the McDonaghs”

Indeedy it is February already! Valentines day is past and Valerie’s birthday is just around the corner. Where does the time go? I have a feeling that thes short, grey, damp and cold days just suck the joy of life out of these NornIron folk. Mind you having said that there is a throb, an almost imperceptible quickening of the pace as the days get longer and the sun warmer on it’s infrequent appearances, spring is on the way 🙂

January was not a good month for Niall as his job ended and he joined the growing ranks of the young unemployed, but there are a few jobs on the horizon so we are all crossing our fingers in the hope that the relevant HR departments are impressed by him. Val is girding her loins for the start of gardening season. She got a fandabulous wheelbarrow thingie for Xmas from mum. Seemingly it is specially designed so it has minimal effect on the dwelliongs of the fairies, gnomes and assorted beasties that live at the bottom of the garden, tis always best to be nice to the mythical lifeforms for fear of their dire retributions 😉 Val also picked up a bargin power tool in the post Xmas pre VAT rise sale at B&Q, she is now ready for “The Lismurphy Not Quite A Chain Saw Because I Am Not That Tall Electric Hedge Trimmer Massacre” .. The front garden Cotoneaster is trembling!

I am STILL waiting for new of movement on my insurance claim for the bike accident back in September, quite honestly if they moved any slower they would be going backwards. However there have been glimmers of hope as 5 months after the accident the bike has been visited by an assessor who is in agreement with me and my mechanic – it is buggered! Now all I need is a few pennies to get back on the road again 😉 The lack of transport has meant that I have had to walk to work 2 or 3 times a week, which to be honest is quite nice. Instead of struggling in to my desk half asleep and bleary, the 40 minute dander door to desk does set you up nicely for the day as I have been arriving awake and ready to face the day with vim and vigour … well ok perhaps Vim, vigour was never my strong point. I am building up to UKLUG11 conference which is at the end of May this year in Manchester. I have submitted two sessions this year and hopefully they go down as well as the session I did at ILUG this year which rather worrying has made it’s way onto YouTube. This year’s being techie will prob not be as well attended 🙂 and it is hard to make up jokes about the wonders of CSS, hard but not impossible 😀

Right that is this year’s Blogging started … and I will make a point to rant and foam and blether more often this year to try and get the visit count up 😉 now where is my guide to WordPress 3.0.5 styling, I think the standard template needs a 2011 tart up… Later folks
