I learned last year, that escape from a black hole is (theoretical) possible. Glad, that your escape was easier.

The black holes are so very, very sneaky, aren't they? They creep up on you slowly, and before you know it they've already screwed up your life. Glad your solution wound up being so straightforward!

This is the only walk I've ever been on where I was actually sick from being so scared!! As you say, never do it in the rain. And the lower path is the best option. I never want to be stuck half way up fair head again!! I may tackle it the other way round, ie down grey mans path first, just to prove I'm not a wus, but it is a scary dander!!!

Tim

The gate to the North Star Mine is locked I beleive for safety reasons and I have no idea who owns it currently. However there are also similar mines openings in murlough ( http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=7439149&id=576026481 ) and I know it is owned by the National Trust. It might be worth giving them a shout and they might be able to get you into the two shafts still open there.

Hi,
I enjoyed reading about your dander and looking at the very impressive pics. It's amazing what's in our wee country that some of us have never seen. One question though about "North Star Mine". On the picture it looked like it has a metal gate or grid over the adit. Is that completely closed/locked to the public? And if so is there anyone I could ask about having a wee duke inside? I do a bit of caving and like to look around old mines too so it caught my attention.
