Fifty years ago today , my lovely mother in law, Isobel gave birth to her first child – a son – Stephen. She laughingly says he came out talking and hasn’t stopped since ! Those of you who know him will understand !! I have been dropping hints for a couple of weeks about this impending BIG birthday, much to his disgust. He says he is starting to feel really old, and that the saying you are only as old as the woman you feel, isn’t much consolation , as I am just a teenie – weenie bit older than him– well quite a bit older actually. To make matters worse our son decided that along with his proper present, he had to have a funny one as well and decided that a pair of Old Man slippers and a pipe would be appropriate . As Stephen has given up the deadly weed , well almost, he was going to get him a bubble pipe instead. I , being the loving wife did not give him a card with a large 50 emblazoned on it , but everyone else made up for my restraint, while Niall’s just said ‘ For the OLD MAN! Poor Steve. Never mind darling , for while your hair is turning a very fetching shade of silver, you probably need glasses and you do creak ever so slightly first thing in the morning , I love you more than ever. Happy, happy birthday and please be gentle with me in two year’s time when I have an even bigger birthday!!!!!
